Our cane sugar is non mass balance fairtrade - what does this mean? Quite simply this is the process where a sugar purchaser or producer can obtain fair trade certification for the final product, in this case cane sugar, even if the fair trade sugar is mixed with conventional non certified sugar at the processing plant. This is something we see far too often with Fairtrade certified sugar. So, if you purchase this you can rest assured that the entire batch is 100% Fairtrade, no excuses!

Doing things differently in Paraguay

Cooperativa de Producción Agro-Industrial Manduvira Ltda (Manduvira Co-op) is located in the village of Arroyos y Esteros in the southwestern region of Paraguay. Founded in 1975 with just 39 members, the co-op continues to grow and today has more than 800 members. Much of Manduvira’s growth has taken place since 2003, and it can be attributed to the fact that the members are doing things a bit differently. Traditionally, sugarcane producers do not have control over the processing and marketing of their crops, but our partners at Manduvira Co-op organized to demand higher prices, allowing them to build the first farmer-owned sugar cane mill in Paraguay and sell their organic sugar directly to market. When farmers organize into co-ops they gain crucial market access, run their business democratically, and decide together how to invest in their communities.

Roasting Block Goes Here

At our solar-powered roastery in West Bridgewater, Massachusetts, our worker-owner team batch roasts and conducts production cuppings daily to bring out the best characteristics in each harvest. With four primary roast levels, we think there’s a favorite here for everyone. Obviously this needs to be updated for UK roasting.

Medium Roast: expect the unique citrus, nutty, fruity, or floral notes of each coffee to shine through.

Full City Roast: you’ll get a bit more of the caramel flavor that comes from the roasting process.

Vienna Roast: starts to bring the smoky aroma and smooth and rich body of a darker roast.

French Roast: with the natural oils fully expressed, it’s an intensely dark and smoky experience akin to dark chocolate.
